APPROACH
VSC proposes a visual communication strategy based on the development of Contemporary Photography Projects (CPP) that reflect upon different dynamics of urban change in order to open new horizons of public intervention in the public space. These projects are conceived as "visual narratives" of these dynamics, intentionally interfering with the metropolitan territory in a self-reflexive representation of its own process of change, reducing the distance between the objects of investigation (landscapes, places, public and collective spaces) and their representations. At the same time, the creative content resulting from this research process is integrated into a visual data organization platform, which will allows different levels of interaction between these contents and the general public.
Departing from the identification of new dynamics of social change related to marginal productions in the field of Art and Culture, this project seeks to favor the integration of new cultural identities, incorporating emerging artistic expressions in relation to the public and collective spaces where these dynamics take place, stimulating their interaction at different scales. The Contemporary Photography projects developed within VSC have a significant potential for enhancing the cultural and architectural heritage of the AMP, constituting a diachronic archive of specific places and selected landscapes over time. These functionalities allow us to investigate how the visualization of several processes of urban transformation are related to the emergence of new cultural dynamics, trying also to identify possible articulation links between these processes.
The spatial analysis of transformation processes and territorial appropriations in the Porto Metropolitan Area allow to develop a set of approaches to better articulate existing material and immaterial resources in the region of study, establishing strategic connections that constitute as a network in the metropolitan space. From this approach, this project develops from a dialogical process between space, people and dynamics that is generated between them.
